I am looking for basic curriculum suitable to train youth in kayak safety. Any ideas? I am not looking for a shcool, but printed or online material.

Bill,
Good to hear from you. The best place to find printed material on paddle safety is the American Canoe Assn at www.americancanoe.org They have printed brochures and other items. Another source is the British Canoe Union (BCU) which also teaches paddle safety. Of course all these instructions will need to be interpreted or taught.

If you do not want to do the teaching yourself, consider a local outfitter or guide. Rich Miller of the Wilderness Trekkers is not too far from you in central Florida - I believe.

Hope this helps.

I am a former Red Cross small craft Instructor Trainer, but they discontinued their program. A Girl Scout Troop has asked for training with sit on top kayaks and I was hoping to not have to write the curriculum. I need it specific to sit on top kayaks. I have sent for a book which I hope will be helpful. We live in a paddling dead zone as far as outfitters are concerned. Do any manufacturers of sit on tops produce safety videos?

Bill
Go to www.youtube.com and put in kayak sit on top safety and you will find a bunch of safety videos. I have not been able to find anything that the manufacturers put out.
