Daniel Alvarez needs the Florida Paddling Trail Associations' help. His 4,000 mile kayaking trip from the northern tip of Minnesota to Key West is a finalist for Outside Magazine's Adventure Grant and he needs votes to win. Please help him by getting as many fellow paddlers as you know to vote for his trip because it is the only kayaking trip among the finalists and it has the potential to raise a lot of awareness for Florida paddling! His route includes half of Florida's Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail. Daniel was born in Tallahassee and grew up paddling here in Florida!
The voting is at: http://www.facebook.com/outsidemagazine/app_363315843722583 - the trip is named "PADDLING THE HEART OF AMERICA." Each person can vote once a day through June 17th, so if the FPTA members could vote for him, it could have a tremendous impact.
Winning the grant would allow Daniel to use the trip to raise awareness for water issues along the route. The trip is tailor made to effectively address the interconnected nature of our nations waterways. When a kayak can go from the top of Minnesota to Key West, it's easy to understand how pollution and carelessness in one place flows through the rest of the system. Winning will bring more publicity and better public awareness of the issues facing our lakes, rivers, and oceans.
