My wife and I will be car topping a double into the area during the 1st week of March and looking for advice on where to do a one day paddle in the Cyrstal River area. We are hoping to see some manatees. Thanks Hugh

Hugh,

There are several places you can paddle in the Crystal River area that have a high probability of seeing Manatees. The Homosassa River just south of Crystal River is a very nice paddle. You can launch your boat at the county boat ramp in old Homosassa next to Macrae's of Homosassa. You can paddle up stream to the State Park on Fish Bowl Road. Hope this helps. Tom

I would suggest the Chassahowtizka River. You can see manatees....and much, much more! Wading birds, otters, gators, eagles, etc. The manatees can usually be found hanging around the dock (depending on the tide) or in Snapper Cove. AND, you don't have to worry about the hordes of people like are on King's Bay or Homosassa.
Just my 2 cents...for what it's worth.
