75 Miles In 6 Days?

I've planned a 6 day kayak trip from Chokoloskee to Flamingo. I've read all over that 15 miles a day is a fine pace. 20 is really pushing it. I've personally paddled 11 or 12 in about 4 hours and didn't feel rushed or sore afterward.

But now people are telling me planning for 15 is CRAZY. Most of those people are not local kayakers though either.

Any advice from the more experienced local paddlers? 3 younger guys, all fit. 14 foot SOT kayaks. We have enough food/water/gear.

The question is just, is 12-15 miles a day for 6 days a crazy undertaking? Anyone with experience out in that area? I really appreciated everyone's opinions.

You should have no problem doing 15 miles a day in decent weather. Most do Chokoloskee to Flaming in 5 days in good weather, but most do paddler in longer sea kayaks. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you so much for replying. If I'm staying off the ocean and more inland for the trip, how much are tides going to play a factor? Does the current drastically change in there?

Tides will come into play some but won't be a problem. There are some currents associated with the tides to deal with but once again not a big issue for most of the trip.

15 per day is very doable in good weather. 15 in a strong headwind is tough even for experienced paddlers. I would aim to go further on good days and tighten up the mileage on bad days. It's really all about the wind. Tides and currents aren't bad in the Everglades.
