River Shuttles?

I'll be down for a couple weeks at the end of Feb. and beginning of March. I'd like to paddle one of the spring fed rivers while I'm down there, Crystal River, Blue Springs, Blackwater, or something of that nature. I'm wondering about options for shuttles though. I'd love to to an overnight up on the Blackwater, but I can't figure out how to deal with the shuttle issue. How do you guys do it solo? I'm new to this board and definitely open to suggestions! So far my only plans for the 3 weeks is a week in the 'glades woven in around a bunch of family obligations. Thanks a bunch in advance!

I believe your key questions is, "How do I set up a shuttle when paddling solo?" There are three ways I know of: 1) Take along a bicycle or other mode of transportation in your vehicle to get back to your boat after dropping it off at the put-in. 2) Hire an outfitter. This is simpler and recommended. 3) Make a friend in a local paddling club
I would first select the river I wanted to explore. You can do this by clicking on the "Paddling Trails" button. Looking at the maps you should be able to determine the major cities close to the river. Then go to "Clubs and Services" button on our web site. You will find all the outfitters in our state. On the Outfitters top menu, you can sort the outfitters by city. Choose one that is close to your river and call for shuttle advice/ charges.
You could use the "Clubs & Services" button on the web site to contact a local paddling club to see if they would help you.
Hope this info is helpful!

I agree with Tonto, If you click on "Clubs & Services" and then click on "Florida Outfitters" you'll see that the first two outfitters handle segment 7 which is the Crystal River area. I which I could join you and help out, but your time frame won't work for me. Have fun!

Ah ha! Obviously, I should have had a V8! (slaps forehead) Didn't really even think of some of the outfitters having shuttle services that aren't part of their tours and such. See, this is why I asked you guys, I figured that I was overlooking something! I had been leaving my choice of rivers open thinking that it might be easier to find out which ones had shuttle options. I'll call a few of the outfitters tomorrow and see what they offer. I'm mostly looking for a day or an overnight on one of the rivers with clearer water. Primary objective being photography, more landscape/sense of place stuff instead of wildlife. So I'm kind of looking for that "hidden tropical spring and rainforest-ish" look. I'm not really locked into any geographical area either as my family is scattered all around the state and I'm trying to do my annual family obligations too. Of course, if I were clever, I'd rope one of them into running shuttle ;-) Thank much for your quick responses! Kirsten oh, and I'm not opposed to company if anyone wants to go that has a fairly flexible schedule and doesn't mind my sudden photo stops.

You don't really need a shuttle for the rivers down here around Crystal River. Unless you were planning on doing a long stretch of the Withlacoochee River. My favorite is the Chassahowtizka River. You can see a little bit of everything there....otters, manatees, wading birds, dolphins, etc. Unless you want to see lots of manatees being acosted by hordes of swimmers I would stay away from King's Bay. 'Course, on the other hand if you WANT to see lots of manatees then that's the place to go! The Rainbow River is nice too...along with sections of the Withlacoochee. Let me know if you need more info.

Second the Chass. The "clear spring in the jungle" can be found at the Crack., Ruth springs, and many others. No shuttle is needed. The legal camping is at the county park at the headsprings. There is also a chickee at the mouth of the river, on the gulf. Lovely spot. T
